KindergartenFive years old on or before Sept. 1.
First gradeSix years old on or before Sept. 1.

Pre-K

  • Children must be four years old on or before Sept. 1 of the current academic year.
  • To determine state funding, a parent or guardian must answer questions about the student’s ability to speak and understand English and the family’s income level.
  • Parents are responsible for supervising their children before bus pickup and after the bus returns.

Kindergarten and first grade

Children must meet the age requirements listed above to be eligible for kindergarten or first grade.

A child who is not legally eligible to enter first grade may be assigned to first grade before age 6. The district makes this decision with the consent of the child’s parent or guardian.

Other grades

New students entering grades after first grade are initially placed at the grade level they reached at their previous school. Final grade placement is based on observations and testing by district personnel.
